In today's blog, we're down in Poole, specifically Hamworthy, a little place just outside Poole, at the Houseboat. You may have seen this in magazines, it's been captured by the press. It's an amazing house, was built by my father Roger Zogolovitch and designed by Mole Architects and Rebecca Granger.
I'm getting my dad Roger to walk us around, so hopefully that will give you kind of an interesting idea.
So the question I've been asked today is 'Why are there not more design-led homes?' Why is it so difficult to find them?
And I think the answer comes down fundamentally to an idea about incentives. Now hopefully I won't get too elaborate and complicated here. But bear with me for a minute as I try and explain what I mean by that.Read More
If you are an architect or someone who is interested in becoming a property developer, it's difficult to know where to start and who to talk to.
There are plenty of opportunities out there - as Colm Lacey, of Brick by Brick, the Croydon private developer said, "architects are pretty much the only people who can develop these sites. Berkeley Homes aren't going to do it. Barratt's aren't going to do it, so don't stop and don't be afraid of going at it. There will be challenges along the way but it's not necessarily a challenge you won't be able to solve."Read More
In this post we're featuring a really cool flat and a fantastic opportunity, overlooking St Katharine Docks.
You can see over the Gherkin, the Walkie Talkie, the Shard, and Tower Bridge. This really is an amazing location! Looking over water, what more could you want?Read More
Today we're touring a beautiful new house in Streatham. You can see Streatham Common stretching for a number of acres, next to the park on a very interesting road, full of late 19th century early 20th century housing up and down.
The story of this site is that originally it was some garages. It was pretty traditional for these big houses at the front to have garages, which eventually fell into disrepair and disuse.
Some of the best architects around. What are they up to?Read More
Hi everyone, my name is Gus Zogolovitch and I run Rare Space. We're an agency interested in new amazing design-led homes, and we decided that we'd put together a few reviews of spaces that we really love. Spaces that we're involved with or not involved with, things that architects have built around town, and maybe out of town, that we think you might be interested in seeing.
So we thought today we'd start with a building that my father Roger Zogolovitch has just built and designed by Simon Allford of AHMM.
At least 130,000 homes could be built on London’s unused publicly owned land. But finding and then acquiring these surplus sites remains a problem two years after the London Land Commission published its register.
Availability of land emerged as the most difficult challenge facing small developers at the ‘How to Develop Small Sites’ Archiboo and Rare Space conference, held in London in April 2018.Read More
