6a Architects was established by Tom Emerson and Stephanie MacDonald in 2001. The practice has an inclination to the arts and rose to prominence for its contemporary art galleries like Raven Row and the expanded South London Gallery. However, their design is not only limited to exhibitions as it also extends to cultural and education buildings and residential housing projects, both local and international. Started by 2 individuals, 6a architects has now expanded to a team of 40 people and have received many prestigious awards, some of which include the RIBA Awards and the Eric Schelling Medal for Architecture. The team has won many major national and international competitions and has also been consecutively nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture and the Mies Van der Rohe Award (2011, 2013 & 2015).
